Rule changes take effect from the next hand or game — never mid-round.

Board size

Takes effect next game. 9 × 9 is a quick, sharp game and where the AI is strongest; on 19 × 19 the AI thinks on a time budget and plays softer.

AI strength

Applies immediately. Levels are Monte-Carlo playout budgets — from a few hundred (Beginner) to tens of thousands (Sensei). Every level is capped by time on larger boards, so 19 × 19 runs noticeably weaker than 9 × 9.

Komi

White's compensation for moving second, added at scoring. Handicap games always use 0.5 regardless of this setting. Takes effect next game.

Handicap

Black starts with extra stones on the star points and White moves first; komi drops to 0.5. Handicap stones are always Black's — pick your color with “Play as”. Takes effect next game.

Play as

Takes effect next game.

AI may resign

The machine concedes once its win rate stays hopeless instead of playing every position out.
